A hand holding sever 100 dollar bills

Everybody could use some extra cash flow! Now more than ever, people are looking to extend beyond their 9-5 by finding additional income streams.

Whether you’re paying off those student loans or trying to save a little extra for that new car or dream vacation, here’s how you can make an extra $1000 a month in 2024!

Monthly Opportunities To Make An Extra $1000

If you don’t have the time to dedicate to a full-on side gig, these are great extra income earners to do when you have the time. Do as little or as much as you would like.

Furniture Flipper

Have you ever seen a piece of furniture listed online for free or on the side of the road, and you just know it has some hidden potential? You can turn old furniture into brand new again and make a pretty profit while you do it. Plus, you’re taking something that might otherwise become garbage and giving it a second chance!

Sell Items You Don’t Need

Do you really need that fancy coat you never wear? Or that pair of skis collecting dust? Chances are, you have plenty of items around the home that you no longer need, but others would happily pay for. Sell the items in a garage sale, through local listings such as Facebook Marketplace, or online through eBay to find your items a new home.

Food Delivery

The demand for people to deliver food or grocery shop has only gone up thanks to these past few years. Become a delivery person for apps such as Instacart, DoorDash, or Uber Eats. Some people make delivering items a full-time job, so if you’re looking for how to make an extra $1000 a month, this option can really pay well!

Ridesharing

Like the above, consider becoming a driver for Uber, Lyft, or other ridesharing apps. In this case, you can set your own hours and truly work as much or as little as you would like. You will need to have a vehicle that is new enough and specific insurance in order to qualify as a driver.

Pet Services

If you love animals, you can earn money just for hanging out with them! List yourself as a dog walker or pet sitter. Advertise through the neighborhood or by listing yourself through local online listings. You can also sign up for apps such as Rover to quickly get started and work with vetted pet owners.

Rent Out Your Items

Did you know that there is a website for renting out pretty much anything? Nowadays, it’s easy to lend your items to others. Consider listing your car on Turo, extra storage space on Neighbor, outdoor equipment like snowboards or bikes on Spinlister, baby gear on Babyquip, and just about everything on Fat Llama.

If you have something you think others may want, just give a quick search to see if it’s possible. It may just be the idea you need for how to make an extra $1000 a month.

Sell At Local Markets

Do you love to create? If you’re spending time on a hobby anyway, you can easily monetize it without dedicating all your extra time to it. It can be anything from selling plants to handmade artwork. Whenever you have enough supply, join a local market and rent a table for the weekend or day to sell your items.

Airbnb

If you have an extra room in your house or a little getaway, consider renting it out when it’s not in use. While those with extra space are quick to think of Airbnb, most people don’t realize that you can also list experiences. Experiences are activities that tourists can sign up for. Examples include local cooking classes, boat rides, to walking tours throughout the city.

House Sitting

People are always looking for reliable individuals or couples to look after their space while they’re gone. While you can try and find postings for house-sitting through local listings, the most popular tool is TrustedHousesitters. The website connects homeowners with house-sitters for an annual fee.

Most house-sitting jobs here won’t earn you actual income. However, they will give you a chance to save money on household expenses or even allow you free accommodation while traveling.

Start A Blog

Hey, making money by blogging worked for me, so why wouldn’t it work for you! If you have a subject that you’re super knowledgeable or passionate about, why not write about it? As you slowly build up a repertoire of articles and a following of readers, you can slowly start to earn income from your words through affiliate links, sponsored posts, digital products, and more.

Sell Printables

My printables are one of my best sources of side income! If you have a cheat sheet that you love to refer to, why not share it with the world for a little profit? It can be anything from meal planning sheets, save the date cards to bachelorette party bingo. Printables are easy to sell online on Etsy, even if you don’t have any kind of following.

Bill payment calendar and bill log

Sell Photography

Do you have an eye for amazing photos? There are hundreds of stock photography websites where people will pay you for the right to use your photo. Great websites include Adobe Stock and Shutterstock. The best kind of photographs are landscapes, office spaces, and generic photos of people that can apply to many businesses.

Create A Course

People want to pay to pick your brain! If you are knowledgeable about a subject, consider making a course that teaches people your expertise. Courses work best if you have an audience to already sell to and work well if you are also planning on building a blog or social media following. However, it’s still possible to be discovered on platforms such as Udemy or Teachable.

Print On Demand Store

You don’t need to have a fancy website or a graphic design degree to make your own print products. Thanks to websites like Red Bubble and Merch by Amazon, you can upload designs you create on Canva, and they will do all the printing for you. People can order your designs on t-shirts, mugs, phone cases, bags, and more, and you won’t have to do a thing to make or ship the items.

Sell On Etsy

Etsy is a wonderful place. I’ve already mentioned how you can use it to sell your printables, but you can also use it to sell pretty much anything you like. Known most for handmade goods, you can sell items such as candles, soap, jewelry, vintage clothing, stickers, crochet, etc. Simply make or source your items, list them on Etsy, and ship out any orders that come your way.

Dropshipping

This is one of the most profitable ways to make money online, and very few people know about it. Dropshipping is when you find trending items to list on your own website and then have a supplier actually fulfill the order. First, you find the trending items to sell and make your own website to sell them through. Then, whenever someone places an order, you don’t even have to touch a product! The supplier has it covered.

Part-Time Work To Make An Extra $1000 A Month

If you have the time, part-time work is the most reliable way to earn extra income. Here are just a few ideas for how to make an extra $1000 a month by doing work in addition to your current job – completely from home. Plus, you can set your own hours.

    Virtual Assistants

You no longer need to be in an office to help out a business owner. With so many at-home entrepreneurs, there are a lot of opportunities to work as virtual assistants. Help to answer emails, sort through schedules, upload content, manage social media, make phone calls, and more. Some virtual assistants can even specialize in areas such as graphic design or marketing.

    Social Media Manager

Every company needs to have a social media presence, but they don’t always have the time to run it. Social media managers help create and post content as well as answer messages and comments and interact with followers.

    Transcriber

Transcriptionists will listen to audio and turn it into writing. It’s as simple as that! Most job opportunities for transcribers are in the medical, legal, and business fields. Specializing in a specific industry will earn you the most income, but you can transcribe anything from court proceedings to podcast episodes. (Tip: with transcription services like Otter.Ai you can maximize productivity and efficiency and triple the amount of clients you are able to serve!)

    Customer Service

You no longer need to be in the office to help answer calls and emails or chat with customers online. Many companies, large or small, need people to fulfill their customer service departments and will offer flexible hours or schedules outside of typical working hours.

    Tutoring

Tutoring doesn’t have to be in person. Once you have figured out what subject you would like to teach, you can offer your services to kids, teenagers, college students, or even adults. You can find customers locally or try using a website such as VIPKID or Brainfuse to help you find people to tutor.

    Writing

Do you have a way with words? Like many of the other online jobs listed here, every company needs a writer for its online presence. Whether you want to help write websites, emails, social media captions, or blog posts, you can write in your off-hours and get paid to do so.

    Clean Houses

If you’re the kind of person who likes more hands-on work, consider working as a cleaner for residential homes. Another option is to do auto detailing. People love it when you come to them. They will happily pay a good price if it means they don’t have to lift a finger to have a clean, sparkling house.

    Upwork

Upwork is an amazing website that connects independent contractors with businesses in need of their services. You can do many of the jobs listed above, such as social media, writing, virtual assistance, graphic design, bookkeeping, etc.

Easy Ways To Make $1000 A Month

Now, these ideas won’t make you $1000 on their own. But they take minimal effort and will help you reach that monthly income goal.

    Cashback Credit Cards

If you’re spending money, you may as well earn some of it back! Switch to a credit card that offers cashback for your purchases. Typically, you can expect to earn 0.5% to 2% back for every dollar spent.

    Utilize Rewards Apps

There are tons of websites and apps where you can earn money or points to redeem for awards just for using their features. This includes searching on their website, using their coupons, uploading pictures of your receipts, and more. Popular options include Rakuten and Honey.

If you have money sitting in a savings account, make it a high-yield one. These savings accounts have slightly better interest rates and will help your sitting money make you a little extra cash. Check out the best savings account rates below.

In just a few minutes, you can fill out surveys, watch videos, or even participate in focus groups to earn money. Popular apps include Swagbucks and Survey Junkie.
