money in jar

The best part-time jobs are the ones that you can do in your spare time and make a significant amount of money. They may not replace the income of your full-time job, but they should have the potential to become full-time jobs.

In other words, a great part-time job lets you decide how much you put into it and determine how much you take out. Part-time jobs may be supplemental income, or it may be just a little side hustle for those who don’t have enough time to work a full-time job for whatever reason.

If you’re looking to boost your income by working part-time, this list of best part-time jobs should point you in the right direction.

Part-time work is also a great place for entrepreneurs to start working for themselves. You don’t need to be an inventor or have manufacturing connections to start your own business. All you have to do is be yourself and offer services you know you can do well.

What To Look For In The Best Part-Time Jobs

The best part-time job opportunities often come from people who have money but not time. They have inflexible or demanding jobs, so they need help with other things, and they can afford to pay good help.

Here is a list of some services you might be able to offer that are gaining traction on the internet through networking sites and other apps. In addition to the many opportunities included in this list of the best part-time jobs, I have one retail suggestion for all you treasure hunters out there. 😉

You can start your own business without branding or manufacturing a new product. You don’t even have to build a customer base or market at all. It may sound too good to be true, but it’s legit. If this sounds like it’s for you, skip to #4!

My Top 10 Best Part-Time Jobs

10. Gardener

Love being outside and tending plants? Why not offer your services as a gardener or landscaper! This is not the best of the best, but it is a very good opportunity for some people. Some of the red flags here are the labor involved and the fact that so many communities have smaller and smaller yards to maintain.

On the plus side, you can still get work tending the plants and vegetation on these smaller plots of land – and it’s a lot less work.

Gardening is an important job because not everybody has an HOA to take care of landscaping, and few people have the time to maintain the outward appearance of their property.

If you have a green thumb, you can lend your expertise. It will probably require some mowing and raking, but with an average rate of $45 per hour, it’s worth it if growing is your passion and you have all the necessary tools.

9. Nanny

If you love kids, this may be the job for you. Whether you have babysitting experience or have raised kids on your own, becoming a nanny may be the ideal opportunity for you.

There are varying degrees of commitment when it comes to a nanny position. You could do it part or full-time, depending on the needs of the family you work for.

Whether you need to pick up kids from school, drive them to practice, or take them to the park, the job can be a natural and rewarding source of part-time income. Depending on the gig, you could fill your calendar or work once or twice a week whenever you’re available.

8. Housekeeper

If you’re noticing a trend here, good for you! There is money to be made supporting people who are spread too thin.

Families who work full-time jobs to pay the mortgage, childcare, healthcare, etc., have full schedules. They don’t feel they have time to keep up their yards or their houses. Many of them spend almost as much time commuting as they do working.

All that burned-up time means they can’t keep their house neat, let alone deep clean it. Swooping in to the rescue for a few hours to return their homestead to ship shape is a much-needed service.

You can fill your schedule with house cleaning gigs as much as you need to make your desired amount, even if it’s just one or two appointments a week.

7. Personal Chef

Often the image of a personal chef is a cook who spends all day in the kitchen catering to rich people. However, it can be a part-time job to help regular people too.

There’s an online network dedicated to connecting people with a local chef who will cook for them. It’s a service just like Uber or Fiverr. Hiring a personal chef on a one-time or subscription basis is just one new option for customers to solve the problem of what’s for dinner.

Since having food delivered is increasingly expensive and unreliable, personal chefs make a desirable alternative. You can even sweeten the deal by cleaning the dishes for your clients.

6. Tutor

Another service that answers a problem people don’t have time in their busy days to solve is education. Tutoring used to be for failing students or for exceptional students who need supplemental learning to challenge them appropriately. But, increasingly, this is no longer the case.

Parents are turning to tutors to teach all kinds of kids the things that schools are failing to deliver on. If you have patience and knowledge on a particular topic, becoming a tutor might be for you.

You can tutor online or in-person, depending on your personal preference and what gives you the most earning potential. I personally tutored students during the summer and made good money using my skill set and talents!

This can be one of the best part-time jobs for teachers in the summer, too!

5. Delivery Driver

In the past, the only delivery drivers out there were for pizza restaurants. But times have changed!

Luckily, there are plenty of other things you can get a delivery job for. Besides pizza, you can deliver just about every kind of food in the books. Joining DoorDash, Postmates, or any of the other app services is just the tip of the iceberg for this industry.

You can deliver groceries, too. Even Amazon Fresh delivery is a convenient part-time opportunity. They even have hours that extend long into the night  – although the idea of delivering packages anytime after nightfall is a little cringy. It should be the exception and not the rule if you ask me.

4. Reseller

This is one of the best part-time jobs for those who love to shop! Instead of services, let’s take another route. Selling good merchandise at a fair price is always a good side hustle. If you get really good at it, it can also overshadow your full-time income.

In reselling, you don’t have to invent or manufacture a product. You don’t have to ship anything from China, and you don’t have to do a lot of branding or advertising to get your business out there.

All you need to do is learn how to find what’s valuable to some people but not valuable enough to the person who owns it.

A reseller is a middle man (or woman) who essentially redistributes material goods for a profit. You acquire cheap or discarded items that one regards as trash and help them find somebody who will regard them as treasure. Resellers use garage sales and thrift stores to find a regular source of inventory that they can list online at a higher price.

3. Uber Driver

Okay, let’s go back to Uber. Since the world has reopened, it’s not so weird to ride in a car with a stranger anymore. The convenience of Uber makes it very desirable, and your area may need more drivers.

You can make consistent money with Uber if you keep to airports and hotels where visitors without cars are frequently coming and going. Lots of Uber drivers double-dip by also joining Lyft. You can do this to have more access to customers and increase your earning potential.

2. Call Center Operator

Among the many work-at-home side gigs that are available is the popular call center operator. This kind of job can be either on the marketing end or on the customer service end. In either case, you will have to have thick skin.

Likely the people you are speaking with, in either situation, are not going to be happy. If you are professional and courteous and enjoy solving problems, a call center job may be a perfect fit for you.

You can use your skills to either sell products and services as solutions or to listen to customer concerns and help your company earn their satisfaction.

1. Content Writer

Finally, we reach one of my favorite topics and my top pick for the best part-time jobs – providing valuable content. If you are a competent writer and love research, the sky’s the limit for the type of content you can provide as a freelance writer.

Whether you are a master of a particular topic or just generally good at understanding how things work, you can make some good side money writing up articles.

You can take jobs specific to your customers’ needs, or you can write your own articles and shop them around.

Many content providers need a constant stream of posts to keep generating clicks on their website, so this is an ideal job for anybody who has a way with words.

Best Part-Time Jobs: The Bottom Line

It’s important to remember that when you’re signing up for a part-time job that this isn’t a “forever” decision. You don’t have to have a part-time job for the rest of your life. Instead, think of this as a temporary solution to helping you reach your money goals.

Whether you are trying to get out of debt, save extra money, or simply cover all your expenses, a part-time job can help you get there. Whichever you choose, make sure to set aside some of your extra cash flow to bulk up an emergency fund or pay off debt. Don’t let your hard work go to waste!
